Amentum Joins Babcock UK Defense Engineering Services Framework to Support Naval Nuclear Infrastructure Projects

Amentum recently announced that it has joined Babcock International Group's five-year engineering services framework, which will support projects related to nuclear energy, marine, land, aviation, and mission systems for the UK Armed Forces both domestically and overseas.

The framework aims to establish closer, longer-term partnerships with key suppliers, delivering specialist engineering capabilities to critical defense programs in a more streamlined and consistent manner. Through this arrangement, suppliers can engage in multiple projects more quickly, helping to optimize procurement processes and enhance project collaboration.

According to reports, this framework agreement builds on Amentum's long-standing support for Babcock-related infrastructure, involving facilities such as HMNB Devonport, HMNB Clyde, and Rosyth Royal Dockyard. Going forward, the framework will continue to serve key UK defense and submarine programs, with expanded support for platforms and infrastructure across the nuclear, marine, land, and air domains.

Amentum stated that the company brings decades of experience in naval nuclear infrastructure, along with engineering, construction, and scientific/technical resources, to support Babcock's requirements in engineering, nuclear, and technology. The scope of work includes providing technical verification for the maintenance of Astute-class and Dreadnought-class submarines, as well as critical infrastructure such as docks, berths, and lifting facilities for the Royal Navy fleet.

According to available information, Amentum delivers complex project, engineering, and program management solutions, with services encompassing requirements management, architectural design, building services, multi-disciplinary design engineering, as well as specialist technical support including safety case production, human factors engineering, 3D building information modeling, geotechnical studies, seismic and explosion assessments, and independent technical evaluations. The company also provides research and technical services for the Royal Navy's nuclear propulsion systems, and is involved in safety case and security-related work.

In the UK, Amentum employs over 6,000 staff, with business covering nuclear power project management, support for existing nuclear power stations, nuclear facility decommissioning engineering design, and safety case development, as well as operating a private nuclear laboratory and engineering test facilities in Warrington. In the defense sector, the company provides safety consultancy and technical services for Royal Navy nuclear submarines, and offers project management and engineering support to relevant organizations.
