US NuScale Deploys Nuclear-Specific AI to Advance Small Modular Reactor Projects
NuScale Power Corporation announced on August 25 that it is deploying nuclear-specific artificial intelligence tools to support its engineering and knowledge management efforts, accelerating the development of its advanced small modular reactor projects.

The initiative combines NuScale's technical expertise in advanced reactors, Nuclearn's AtomAssist nuclear AI platform, and NPX's experience in nuclear project delivery and AI implementation, aiming to establish specialized tools tailored for nuclear scenarios that help engineering teams retrieve, understand, and apply critical technical information more efficiently.
As advanced reactor projects transition from the design phase to the deployment phase, engineering information, licensing bases, technical standards, and institutional knowledge continue to grow. NuScale stated that rapidly and traceably accessing relevant information has become a critical factor in maintaining project schedules. The company's initial proof-of-concept demonstrated that AI terminology systems and workflows designed for nuclear engineering can reduce the time required to locate relevant information by up to 80%, while highlighting the most pertinent engineering methods and standards.
NuScale Chief Technology Officer José Reyes stated that the company is building a new deployment model to integrate NuScale Power Module™ small modular reactor modules into nuclear power plants in the near term. The collaboration will enable teams to work more efficiently while leveraging the company's proprietary knowledge, without compromising safety and quality standards.
Nuclearn Chief Financial Officer and Co-Founder Jerrold Vincent stated that in a highly regulated industry with stringent safety requirements such as nuclear energy, AI outputs must be built upon controlled engineering and licensing information. The platform combines nuclear-specific language models with NuScale's engineering and licensing content, enabling engineers to trace back to original controlled sources.
NPX U.S. Director Joshua Bell stated that new nuclear construction projects generally face the challenge of balancing accelerated schedules with maintaining quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. NPX combines nuclear project experience with AI implementation to help project teams translate relevant technologies into practical tools for daily operations.
Founded in 2007, NuScale is a supplier of advanced small modular reactor technology. Its NuScale Power Module™ is a small pressurized water reactor module capable of generating 77 MWe or 250 MWt per module; through multi-module configurations, 12 modules can deliver a total output of up to 924 MWe. The company stated that its small modular reactor design has been certified by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and can be used for power generation, data centers, district heating, seawater desalination, commercial-scale hydrogen production, and other process heat applications.
