Leo Cancer Care and GE HealthCare Announce Collaboration to Advance Upright Radiotherapy Workflow Integration

Leo Cancer Care recently announced a commercial collaboration with GE HealthCare, focusing on GE HealthCare's advanced imaging solutions and intelligent radiotherapy software, with plans to apply related technologies to Leo Cancer Care's future upright radiotherapy systems to streamline patient and data workflows from simulation to treatment delivery.

Under the collaboration framework, the two parties will explore integration pathways between GE HealthCare's intelligent radiotherapy software iRT and Leo Cancer Care's future upright radiotherapy solutions. iRT is an AI-assisted software developed for radiotherapy settings, primarily used to connect information, workflows, and applications across different systems, helping healthcare institutions simplify complex processes, enable patients to enter radiotherapy more promptly, and reduce clinician burden.

This collaboration addresses long-standing challenges in radiation oncology, including interoperability issues arising from multi-vendor systems, the time gap between imaging and treatment initiation, fragmented clinical workflows, high cost and complexity of treatment infrastructure, suboptimal patient experience, and unequal access to advanced technologies.

The two companies stated that this collaboration is a non-exclusive arrangement, allowing both to maintain flexible partnerships within the broader radiation oncology ecosystem. The goal is not to replace existing clinical infrastructure but to develop interoperable solutions that complement current healthcare systems.

Ben Newton, Global Head of Oncology at GE HealthCare, stated that more closely connecting imaging, planning, and treatment in radiotherapy has the potential to deliver significant impact for patients and care teams. Stephen Towe, CEO of Leo Cancer Care, noted that GE HealthCare's decision to collaborate with Leo Cancer Care signals growing industry recognition of upright radiotherapy.

Leo Cancer Care specializes in upright patient positioning technology, aiming to improve radiotherapy efficiency, comfort, and accessibility. The company is developing multiple cancer treatment products, with its flagship system Marie® compatible with various particle beams, supporting proton, carbon ion, neutron, and FLASH therapies.
