India's TARIL Secures Generator Transformer Order for Kaiga Nuclear Power Project

On August 31, 2026, India's Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) secured an order to supply generator transformers for Units 5 and 6 of the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant, providing critical power equipment for the nuclear project being advanced by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) in Karnataka. The order was placed by Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) and marks TARIL's first order in the nuclear power sector since entering the field.

Units 5 and 6 of the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant are located in Kaiga, Karnataka, India, developed by NPCIL, and utilize India's indigenous 700 MWe pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR) technology. Once both units are completed, they will add 1,400 MWe of nuclear power generation capacity to the Kaiga plant.

Under the order arrangement, TARIL will supply generator transformers for the project. This type of equipment is used to support the voltage step-up and transmission of electricity generated by the nuclear units, serving as a critical component of the plant's power output system and directly impacting the stability and reliability of integrating the generated power into the transmission grid.

TARIL stated that the Kaiga project provides an opportunity for the company to deploy its transformer manufacturing and engineering capabilities in high-demand power application scenarios. The company is strengthening its manufacturing capacity, technical foundation, engineering capabilities, and vertical integration levels to meet India's power infrastructure development needs.

TARIL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Satyen Mamtora stated that the company is honored to enter the nuclear power sector through this order and to apply its transformer manufacturing capabilities to critical national infrastructure projects. He noted that this order reflects market recognition of TARIL's technical and engineering capabilities and will also help the company expand its business in critical, high-value power infrastructure.

TARIL primarily manufactures transformers and reactors for power generation, transmission, and other critical power applications. This order for the Kaiga nuclear project will further expand the company's participation in the nuclear power equipment supply chain.
