Canada's AtomVie Opens Large-Scale Radiopharmaceutical R&D and Manufacturing Facility in Hamilton

On September 4, AtomVie Global Radiopharma, a radiopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization, announced the official opening of its new state-of-the-art production facility at 10 Aeropark Boulevard, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The facility is designed to support the full-spectrum translation of radiopharmaceuticals from early-stage research and development, through clinical development, to commercial manufacturing.

According to reports, the new facility represents an investment of over $160 million and spans 72,300 square feet, making it one of the largest single-site radiopharmaceutical R&D CDMO facilities in North America. The facility offers production capabilities ranging from low-throughput to high-throughput, increasing AtomVie's overall production capacity by more than tenfold, with dedicated spaces configurable to meet clients' subsequent R&D and commercialization needs.

AtomVie originated from the Centre for Probe Development and Commercialization (CPDC), affiliated with McMaster University. The centre was established to advance Canada's development in radiopharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing. Currently, AtomVie is expanding its specialized team and plans to exceed 200 employees by the end of 2026 as the new site continues to expand and reach full operations.

AtomVie stated that, leveraging over a decade of experience in process development and analytical method development, the company has supported more than 70 clinical development and technology transfer projects, produced over 1,000 batches of pharmaceuticals compliant with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and delivered more than 4,400 cGMP-compliant doses to patients across 28 countries on six continents, with a delivery success rate exceeding 99%.

AtomVie CEO Bruno Paquin stated that the opening of the new facility marks a new phase in the company's development and will further support partners in advancing their R&D pipelines and commercialization efforts. AtomVie Board Chair Kevin McNeill stated that the facility equips the company with commercial-scale service capabilities, providing more reliable production support to partners in the radiopharmaceutical field.

During the opening event, government representatives, clients, partners, and professionals in the radiopharmaceutical field toured the new facility. AtomVie stated that the facility will be used to support the development and supply of radiopharmaceuticals related to next-generation precision cancer therapies.
