Uzbekistan Delegation Attends the 70th IAEA General Conference

The 70th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference is being held in Vienna. This anniversary conference will continue until September 18, with representatives from IAEA member states, international organizations, and industry experts in attendance.

The conference reviewed the agency's recent work achievements and set future priority development directions in nuclear energy, nuclear safety, safeguards, and humanitarian programs.

The Uzbekistan delegation attended this conference. Azim Akhmedkhodjayev, Director of the Uzbekistan Atomic Energy Agency (Uzatom) and head of the delegation, presented the latest progress in Uzbekistan's cooperation with the IAEA, with a focus on Uzbekistan's efforts in nuclear infrastructure development, nuclear medicine development, safe operation of research reactors, and improvement of teaching and laboratory facilities.

The conference particularly emphasized that Uzbekistan is the first country in the region to launch a nuclear power plant construction project.

According to the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety of Uzbekistan, the delegation held bilateral talks with IAEA leadership and counterparts from multiple countries during the conference, focusing on ensuring radiation and nuclear safety, improving the nuclear energy regulatory system, sharing international experience, and expanding practical cooperation in related fields.

This conference effectively promoted cooperation among countries in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and is of great significance for ensuring nuclear and radiation safety, strengthening international safeguards, and promoting advanced experience and technologies.
