Rosatom Technical Academy Launches Development of Training Programs for Uzbekistan NPP Personnel

Rosatom Technical Academy has launched the development of training programs for personnel of the planned nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. The foundation ceremony for this project was held in June this year, and training preparations will be aligned with the NPP construction schedule and subsequent operational requirements.

Currently, Academy experts are developing teaching materials, refining training methodologies, and formulating course plans coordinated with the NPP construction phases for this new project. The training content will also be adapted to the characteristics of the small modular reactor technology adopted for the project to meet new technical requirements. At the Novovoronezh branch alone, about 50 experts are already involved in developing training programs for Uzbek personnel.

Sergey Bukin, Head of the Theoretical and Practical Training Center at the Novovoronezh branch of Rosatom Technical Academy, stated that the Academy plans to complete a comprehensive course system by the end of December this year, covering the main operational areas of the NPP, including the reactor shop, turbine shop, electrical shop, chemical shop, thermal automation and instrumentation, radioactive waste management, metal flaw detection, and fundamentals of control and inspection methods.

Ruslan Magda, Project Director at Rosatom Technical Academy, stated that the focus of the training preparation phase is to adapt teaching materials to the characteristics of small modular reactors, integrate relevant specialized knowledge, and strengthen practical training. In the future, the Academy plans to build a fully equipped training center in Uzbekistan to train operators for the new units and cultivate professional talent for the Uzbek nuclear industry.

According to the plan, the first phase of training is expected to commence in early 2027, after all training modules have been developed and approved. This phase will include theoretical courses as well as operational skills training on full-scope simulators.
