Korea Radioactive Waste Agency Hosts Nuclear Nuclide Analysis Industry and Technology Nexus Symposium (RANEX 2026)

The agency and the Korea Radioactive Analysis Association jointly hosted the “Nuclide Analysis Industry and Technology Nexus Symposium (RANEX 2026)” from September 15 to 16 at the Lahan Select Hotel in Gyeongju, attracting more than 200 experts, scholars, and industry representatives from home and abroad.

The core purpose of this symposium was to share the importance of nuclide analysis——a key area in the national radioactive waste management undertaking——and to jointly explore strategies for technological innovation and the cultivation of an industrial ecosystem through in-depth cooperation between the public sector and private enterprises.

During the symposium, experts held in-depth discussions on core topics including the development strategy for the radioactive waste nuclide analysis industrial ecosystem, the latest analytical technologies and instrumentation trends, domestic and international nuclide analysis quality management trends, and response challenges.

The attending representatives reached a high degree of consensus, unanimously agreeing that as nuclear power plant decommissioning work officially advances, a large amount of radioactive waste will be generated in the future, making it imperative and urgent to comprehensively enhance the nuclide analysis capabilities of private enterprises.

To this end, both parties will further expand the scope of public-private cooperation, including opening facilities and specialized equipment held by public institutions to private enterprises, and developing and operating nuclide analysis professional talent training programs, among others, to empower the industry.

As an extremely critical technical field in radioactive waste safety management and disposal, nuclide analysis technology is mainly used to precisely measure and analyze the types and concentrations of radionuclides contained in radioactive waste.

Cho Sung-don, President of the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency, stated that the agency will strive to become a solid foundation for promoting the smooth implementation of nuclear power plant decommissioning projects and to provide the most trustworthy partner support for all enterprises entering the nuclide analysis market.
