An independent expert team has once again confirmed the environmental safety of Russia's Rostov Nuclear Power Plant

Recently, the annual ecological expedition involving students and researchers from Southern Federal University successfully completed its second phase, and an independent expert team has once again confirmed the environmental safety of Russia's Rostov Nuclear Power Plant. During the expedition, researchers collected 200 soil samples and conducted nearly 500 measurements of air γ radiation dose rates. These sampling points had been established long before the nuclear power plant was put into operation and have been used continuously over the years. Through analysis of these samples, experts were able to accurately assess the local natural radiation background.

Dr. Yelena·Buraeva, head of the ecological expedition team, briefed the media in detail on the monitoring results sustained over many years. She emphasized that 25 years of tracking and monitoring have shown that the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant has not brought any negative impact on the ecosystem of the Don River basin, which also confirms the precise measurements of the regional environment conducted before the nuclear power plant began operation. Such long-term monitoring is of continuing importance for assessing the environmental impact of nuclear power plants.

Andrey·Sarnikov, Director of the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant, stated that environmental safety is the top priority in the operation of the nuclear power plant, and the plant invests substantial resources every year in environmental protection, environmental monitoring, equipment upgrades, and aquatic ecological enhancement. He believes that the monitoring results of this independent expert team are authoritative recognition of these systematic efforts.

Alexey·Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, also pointed out that as global demand for low-carbon energy continues to grow, efficient and environmentally friendly energy utilization models such as nuclear energy will inevitably become the general trend. As an important source of electricity in the region, the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant provides clean electricity security for the local area, with its installed capacity accounting for more than 70% of the state's total power generation and supporting approximately 30% of the electricity supply of Russia's Southern Unified Power Grid.
