Harbin Fusion and Superconducting Industry Technology Innovation Alliance Established

On August 7, the inaugural meeting and first member assembly of the Harbin Fusion and Superconducting Industry Technology Innovation Alliance was held.

Under the guidance of the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Harbin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) took the lead in establishing the Harbin Fusion and Superconducting Industry Technology Innovation Alliance. The alliance not only comprehensively integrates HIT's national-level advantageous research capabilities in fields such as robotics, advanced welding and joining, special composite materials, and extreme environment simulation, and brings in local scientific innovation forces and industrial entities including Harbin Engineering University, the Heilongjiang Provincial Institute of Atomic Energy, and Harbin Electric Group, but also brings together research institutes and universities such as the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Southwest Institute of Physics of Nuclear Industry, the University of Science and Technology of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Southwest Jiaotong University, as well as leading domestic core universities, research institutes, and enterprises in the fusion and superconducting fields including Western Superconducting Technologies, ENN Science and Technology, and Energy Singularity, totaling 66 member units. This initially establishes a full-chain collaborative system covering basic research, technological breakthroughs, equipment manufacturing, and engineering applications.

Currently, global nuclear fusion energy research and development is at a critical stage of transitioning from scientific experiments to engineering implementation, and has become a strategic high ground in major-power technological competition. China has incorporated nuclear fusion energy into the future industry layout of the "15th Five-Year Plan," and the industry is facing historic opportunities for development.

As an important national old industrial base, Harbin has deep accumulations in high-end equipment manufacturing and special materials, is accelerating its efforts in emerging tracks such as artificial intelligence and robotics, and achieves seamless integration of industry and education in cultivating high-end talent. The city boasts top universities and research institutes and national key laboratories including HIT, Harbin Engineering University, and the Provincial Academy of Sciences, as well as a number of backbone enterprises such as Harbin Electric Group that resonate with the national energy strategy. The establishment of the Harbin Fusion and Superconducting Industry Technology Innovation Alliance is both a key measure to implement the national strategic deployment of cultivating new quality productive forces and a pragmatic action to promote the development of future industries in Heilongjiang Province and Harbin City and to actively integrate into the national energy strategic layout.

A relevant official stated that the alliance will leverage its role as a platform and bond, focusing on core areas such as high-temperature superconducting materials, superconducting magnet equipment, and intelligent regulation of fusion plasma. It will establish mechanisms for joint research, platform sharing, and standards co-development, regularly carry out activities including academic exchanges, industry research, supply-demand matching, policy briefings, and talent training, actively align with the national major strategic needs for controlled nuclear fusion, collaboratively tackle core technologies such as key fusion reactor materials, superconducting magnets, and plasma control, smooth the channels for industrialization of scientific and technological achievements, deeply explore application scenarios in energy equipment, high-end manufacturing, and new materials, and strive to build a regional innovation brand of "Fusion and Superconducting," providing strong support for cultivating new economic growth engines for Heilongjiang Province and Harbin City.
