Rosatom Starts Preparations for Long-Lead Equipment Contracts at Primorskaya NPP

The engineering division of Rosatom recently announced that preparations for signing long-lead equipment manufacturing contracts for the Primorskaya Nuclear Power Plant have commenced, covering the reactor building, turbine hall, core catcher, and other major system components.

According to the announcement, the scope of contract preparation includes key equipment such as main reactor building equipment, turbine hall equipment, the Automated Process Control System (APCS) for the units, and the core catcher. Long-lead equipment typically has extended manufacturing cycles and represents a critical element that must be secured early in the pre-construction phase of a nuclear power project.

Currently, the project is also advancing multiple public tender preparation efforts, including site vertical layout planning, supply of inert materials, and construction of temporary accommodation for personnel involved in the Primorskaya NPP construction. The relevant tenders are expected to attract participation from local enterprises.

Construction and installation work at the Primorskaya NPP is scheduled to commence between September and October this year, with the preparation of project design documentation expected to be completed by the end of 2026. According to the plan, the first concrete pour for the reactor building foundation is scheduled for December 2027, marking the project's transition into the main construction phase.

The nuclear power plant is located in the Ussuriysk urban district, near the villages of Krasny Yar and the Razdolnaya River. The project plans to build two units using the proven VVER-1000 pressurized water reactor technology, with a total installed capacity of 2 GW. Unit 1 is scheduled to be commissioned in 2033, and Unit 2 is expected to be commissioned in 2035.
