Russia's Khiagda Uranium Enterprise Passes Routine Regulatory Inspection

Khiagda JSC, part of the mining division of Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), has completed a routine on-site inspection by the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor). The inspection covered the company's uranium mining-related facilities and its nuclear energy utilization activities.

The inspection team was led by Mikhail Morev, Head of the Department for Assessment, Licensing and Inspection of Industrial Nuclear Reactors and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management Facilities at Rostekhnadzor. The team inspected the railway freight yard in Chita, as well as the central production site in the Bauntovsky District of the Republic of Buryatia, and reviewed the organizational structure and production processes of the enterprise from the mine site to the main production facilities.

The inspection covered compliance of nuclear facilities with mandatory requirements and license conditions, as well as the enterprise's management of radiation safety, quality assurance for licensed activities, personnel selection and training, employee knowledge and qualification assessments, accident prevention and emergency preparedness, nuclear material transport, and physical protection systems. The inspection team also verified the completeness and accuracy of relevant documentation, as well as the appointment of personnel responsible for specific positions.

Anatoly Mikhailov, Chief Executive Officer of Khiagda JSC, stated that regulatory inspections are an important mechanism for confirming the enterprise's compliance with safety standards in the nuclear energy sector, that safety is the top priority of the company's production and operational activities, and that the enterprise will continue to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements at all stages of uranium mining, processing, and transportation.

Following the inspection, the Rostekhnadzor team gave a positive assessment of Khiagda JSC's performance.
