Recently, Amentum, a leading U.S. provider of engineering, project management, and innovative technology solutions, opened its global nuclear headquarters in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and established a Nuclear Center of Excellence, making it the centralized hub for the company's international nuclear business operations. The center is located at 151 Lafayette Drive in Oak Ridge and houses more than 150 experts across various fields, dedicated to delivering innovative engineering, technology solutions, and advanced energy capabilities. Amentum is already a major partner of the Oak Ridge Unified Cleanup Organization (UCOR), the primary environmental management contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) at the Oak Ridge Reservation——.

It is understood that Mark Whitney, President of Amentum's Energy & Environment sector, stated that concentrating global nuclear operations in Oak Ridge allows the company to fully leverage strong local partnerships, enhance energy production capacity, and meet the electricity needs of people and businesses across the United States. The facility will help the expert team develop next-generation nuclear innovations and build upon the operational foundation established in the region through the Amentum-led UCOR partnership, while making direct contributions to regional economic growth.

To meet the rapidly growing demand for skilled professionals in the nuclear industry, Amentum simultaneously launched the Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program, establishing a synchronized scholarship pipeline between Roane State Community College and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). Amentum has committed $500,000 over five years to develop curricula and scholarships to cultivate critical talent capable of meeting the world's growing nuclear energy needs. Combined with other STEM sponsorships and donations, total student support at these two academic institutions has exceeded $1 million. The educational pipeline will launch its first cohort of students in the United States by the end of 2026, followed by integration with Amentum's international academic partners in the fall of 2027.

It is reported that Amentum held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by CEO John Heller, U.S. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, local elected leaders, and school officials. Matthew Mench, Dean of the Tickle College of Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, stated that the partnership will provide students with the necessary educational foundation to become future leaders in the nuclear industry. Dr. Chris Whaley, President of Roane State Community College, stated that the Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program removes financial barriers that hinder students' academic progress and provides them with a pathway directly from the classroom to high-paying, high-impact careers. The opening of the headquarters and the talent program demonstrate that Amentum is accelerating the integration of its nuclear business and investing in local talent to meet the demands of U.S. nuclear expansion.
