Eagle Nuclear Energy Advances 47-Hole Pre-Feasibility Drilling at Aurora Uranium Project
Against the backdrop of rebuilding a domestic U.S. uranium supply chain, newly listed Eagle Nuclear Energy Corp. has entered the industry spotlight with what it claims to be the largest conventional measured+indicated uranium resource in the country. Its flagship Aurora uranium project, located on the Oregon—Nevada border, contains 32.75 million pounds of indicated resources and 4.98 million pounds of inferred resources under S-K 1300 standards. The company has submitted permit applications for a pre-feasibility drilling program comprising 47 holes totaling approximately 27,000 feet, with work slated to begin upon federal and state approvals and pre-feasibility study completion targeted for the second half of 2027. On the technical front, the company recently added Yukuskokon Professional Services and expanded its collaboration with BBA USA and SLR International in engineering, resource estimation, and permitting.

The U.S. operates the world's largest nuclear reactor fleet, yet the uranium used in its reactors is largely imported, with only a small portion produced domestically. Washington has added uranium to its critical minerals list and is working to reduce dependence on Russian nuclear fuel while expanding domestic conversion and enrichment capacity. Nuclear power accounts for roughly one-fifth of U.S. electricity generation, and rising power demand from AI data centers is putting pressure on baseload generation, prompting utilities to lock in long-term uranium supply agreements, which supports uranium prices and sector investment sentiment. As a pre-revenue developer, Eagle reported approximately $28 million in cash and no interest-bearing debt in its Q2 2026 SEC filing, reflecting a relatively solid balance sheet.
Whether Aurora can move forward hinges first on drilling permit approvals, and drill results will directly shape the pre-feasibility study and economic assessments. Eagle also holds exclusive rights to its own small modular reactor (SMR) technology, positioning it not only in uranium mining but also in the SMR segment that draws dual attention from policy and industry. Like all uranium developers, Aurora must still clear permitting, technical, and financing hurdles before reaching production, but during this window of opportunity for securing reliable domestic U.S. uranium, its progress is being scrutinized with heightened industry attention.
