OECD Nuclear Energy Agency and the United States to Co-Host "New Nuclear Roadmap 2026" Conference

The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and the United States will co-host the "New Nuclear Roadmap 2026" conference on September 17-18, 2026, in Paris, France. The conference will bring together ministers, senior government representatives, industry leaders, investors, experts, and relevant stakeholders to discuss the policy, industrial, and financial conditions required for the large-scale deployment of new nuclear capacity.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright stated that the world needs more energy and that nuclear energy will play an important role in addressing this demand. The U.S. Department of Energy will co-host the conference with partners to advance nuclear innovation, strengthen international cooperation, and continue to promote global nuclear energy development.

OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Director-General William D. Magwood IV stated that reliable, safe, and affordable energy is essential to economic growth and energy security. Many countries have identified nuclear technology as a key component of their future development plans. The "New Nuclear Roadmap 2026" conference will provide a platform for government and industry representatives to translate these goals into concrete actions and create the conditions for the large-scale construction of new nuclear capacity.

According to the conference agenda, participants will focus on strengthening the nuclear supply chain, expanding the nuclear workforce, mobilizing investment, and accelerating project delivery. The conference will also cover topics including large-scale nuclear deployment, the nexus between artificial intelligence and nuclear energy, regulatory modernization, financing models, and nuclear fuel supply security.

The application of small modular reactors (SMRs) will also be a key focus of the conference discussions. Participants will explore deployment pathways in areas such as power generation, industrial energy supply, fuel recycling, and maritime propulsion.

In addition, ministers and corporate leaders will discuss strengthening international cooperation, expanding development financing channels, and advancing innovative financing approaches to support nuclear energy project deployment in emerging economies.
