China-led International Standard for Estimating RBE-Weighted Absorbed Dose from Acute Exposure Approved for Initiation

China-led International Standard for Estimating RBE-Weighted Absorbed Dose from Acute Exposure Approved for Initiation

According to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the international standard ISO25600 "Estimation Method for RBE (Relative Biological Effectiveness)-Weighted Absorbed Dose from Acute Exposure," led by the China Institute of Atomic Energy, has been officially approved for initiation. This is a general methodology international standard led by China in the global field of nuclear and radiation emergency dose assessment. It can provide important support for the rapid estimation and evaluation of acute doses, decision-making on emergency protective actions, international notification and communication, as well as emergency training, exercises, and scientific research, helping to strengthen the scientific rigor and timeliness of global nuclear emergency response, and enhance response capability and standardization. Nuclear and radiation emergency response is a vital guarantee for the sustained and healthy development of the nuclear energy industry...

Curium Acquires Belgium's Abscint, Expanding HER2-Targeted Gallium-68 PET Oncology Radiopharmaceutical Diagnostics Pipeline

Curium Acquires Belgium's Abscint, Expanding HER2-Targeted Gallium-68 PET Oncology Radiopharmaceutical Diagnostics Pipeline

On August 10, 2026, radiopharmaceutical company Curium announced the completion of its acquisition of Abscint SA, a Belgian clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical company. The transaction grants Curium global development, manufacturing, and commercialization rights to ABS-011, further expanding its oncology PET radiopharmaceutical diagnostics portfolio. ABS-011 is an investigational gallium-68-labeled positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceutical diagnostic tracer targeting human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). HER2 is an important biological target in multiple cancers, including breast cancer and gastric cancer. Based on available information, ABS-011 is designed to enable whole-body quantitative imaging of HER2 expression, and following further clinical development and regulatory approval, has the potential to provide more comprehensive HER2 status information for patient characterization and clinical assessment.

DXA Screening Among U.S. Medicare Population Declines 35% Over Nearly Two Decades

DXA Screening Among U.S. Medicare Population Declines 35% Over Nearly Two Decades

A new study shows that between 2005 and 2023, the rate of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) examinations among U.S. Medicare beneficiaries declined significantly, by 35%. DXA is commonly used for bone density testing and osteoporosis-related screening, and the findings suggest that disparities in screening access across different populations are widening. Researchers analyzed claims data from more than 5 million Medicare beneficiaries. The results showed that DXA utilization fell from 7,255 exams per 100,000 beneficiaries in 2005 to 4,690 per 100,000 beneficiaries in 2023. The study was published in Osteoporosis International. The decline was not uniform across populations...

Quantum X Labs Advances Quantum Computing for Nuclear Particle Transport Predictive Simulations

Quantum X Labs Advances Quantum Computing for Nuclear Particle Transport Predictive Simulations

Quantum X Labs Inc. recently announced that its subsidiary, Nuclear Quantum, has proposed a new solution to a bottleneck in computational simulations for the nuclear industry, attempting to introduce quantum computing into nuclear particle transport prediction to support compute-intensive scenarios such as nuclear medicine system design. According to reports, traditional particle transport simulations play an important role in nuclear medicine system design, but they often require substantial computational resources and involve long runtimes, impacting R&D and optimization efficiency. The technology proposed by Nuclear Quantum aims to transform physical transport models into quantum circuits, enabling particle propagation and random walk dynamics to be directly represented and simulated within a quantum computing framework...
