First Backup Emergency Diesel Generator of Hualong One Officially Available at Sanao Nuclear Power Unit 2
On October 2, the first backup emergency diesel generator (9LHW) of Hualong One completed the replacement grid connection test at Sanao Nuclear Power Unit 2 and was officially put into service. The equipment can replace any one of the original 12 emergency diesel generators (EDGs) in Phase I and Phase II projects, significantly improving the redundancy, reliability, and maintenance flexibility of the plant's emergency power supply. Sanao Nuclear Power Phase I and Phase II each have 3 emergency busbars, with one EDG configured for each busbar. However, due to the absence of cross-power supply for loads, the preventive maintenance windows of the original units were concentrated, affecting the overhaul schedule. Since 2021, Cangnan Nuclear Power has promoted the project of adding backup diesel generators, improving from the design source, building a new backup emergency diesel generator building (BDD), and constructing corridors and cables connected to each unit...

Investigation to Be Conducted into Emergency Diesel Generator Failure at Unit 6 of Japan's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant
Tokyo Electric Power Company announced that it will investigate the failure of the emergency diesel generator at Unit 6 of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The unit was restarted after 14 years of shutdown and resumed commercial operation in April this year. According to Tokyo Electric Power Company, in July this year, workers discovered that water had mixed into the lubricating oil of the emergency diesel generator at Unit 6. Subsequent inspections confirmed that there was a water leak in the cylinder head, a component of the generator engine. The company therefore determined that the unit currently does not meet the operational safety specification requirements. Tokyo Electric Power Company stated that it plans to complete the relevant repair work by September 19. If the repair cannot be completed by then, the cause of the failure will be further investigated, and measures may include shutting down the reactor for inspection.

First Emergency Diesel Generator Successfully Introduced at Unit 6 of Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant
On September 4, 2026, the first emergency diesel generator for Unit 6 of Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant was successfully introduced into the diesel generator building. The emergency diesel generator is a critical required power source during the cold test phase of a nuclear power unit. The successful introduction of this equipment ensured the availability of emergency power during the cold test period, providing a solid power guarantee for the smooth execution of subsequent cold test work for Unit 6. The Installation Management Section of Lufeng Nuclear Power shifted from passive waiting to proactive action, planning the diesel generator introduction route in advance. The greatest challenge of this introduction task was the deep pit backfill adjacent to the main area of the siphon well on the west side of the diesel generator building, with a backfill depth exceeding 20 meters, a wide coverage area, and a graded aggregate demand of up to approximately 80,000 cubic meters. During construction...

Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Relies on Emergency Diesel Generators to Maintain Operations
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recently stated that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has been relying on emergency diesel generators to maintain critical safety systems for over a week following the interruption of its external power supply. After inspections by the agency's on-site expert team, it was confirmed that as of the 23rd local time, the plant's diesel reserves could support approximately 10 days of operation, approaching the minimum regulatory requirement. According to the IAEA, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost its connection to the only remaining 330 kV Peresopravna-1 external transmission line starting on the 20th. Subsequently, the plant activated multiple emergency diesel generators to power critical equipment, including the six reactors and pumps related to spent fuel cooling and storage. The IAEA...
