Inner Mongolia Nuclear and Radiation Monitoring Center Organizes Standard Pre-Research Exchange Meeting

In accordance with the arrangement of the radiation monitoring standard pre-research project, the Inner Mongolia Nuclear and Radiation Monitoring Center (hereinafter referred to as the Inner Mongolia Center) undertakes the pre-research task for the standard "Determination of Total Uranium and Thorium in Soil and Sediment - Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry." To standardize the inter-laboratory method validation process and ensure the smooth progress of the validation work, the Inner Mongolia Center recently organized a standard pre-research method validation exchange meeting in Baotou City, attended by experts from the Radiation Environmental Monitoring Technical Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment for on-site guidance.

Seven laboratories from across the country participated in this validation exchange meeting, including provincial-level radiation environmental monitoring institutions and laboratories in the fields of nuclear industry, nuclear technology applications, geology, and rare earths. Prior to the meeting, on-site soil and sediment sampling was organized, with each validation laboratory independently completing sample collection in strict accordance with sampling specifications. The collected samples were subsequently brought back to each laboratory for processing and analysis according to the validation plan, with full-process method validation starting from the sampling stage.

At the validation exchange meeting, each validation laboratory shared the phased data results of the preliminary method validation and conducted in-depth exchanges on issues encountered in sample pretreatment, instrument testing, quality control, and other aspects, as well as the experience gained. Through thorough discussion, the validation laboratories reached consensus on solutions to the issues encountered during the validation process and further clarified the requirements and objectives for the subsequent validation work.

Experts from the Radiation Environmental Monitoring Technical Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment fully affirmed the progress made by the Inner Mongolia Center in the standard pre-research work, and pointed out the shortcomings and optimization directions of the current work based on the experience gained from the first batch of standard development, providing strong support for the high-quality completion of this standard pre-research task.

In the next step, the Inner Mongolia Center will further optimize the method validation plan based on the outcomes of this exchange, work backward from the schedule, and ensure the high-quality completion of this standard pre-research task, contributing Inner Mongolia's strength to improving the radiation monitoring standard system.
