Marvel Fusion, Colorado, and Siemens Energy Sign Letter of Intent to Advance Laser-Driven Fusion Energy Cooperation

Marvel Fusion, the U.S. State of Colorado, and Siemens Energy announced on August 12 the signing of a Letter of Intent aimed at strengthening transatlantic cooperation to advance the research, development, and commercialization of laser-driven fusion energy technology.

Under the Letter of Intent, the tripartite cooperation will focus on four areas: advancing joint research and development projects, including work utilizing leading fusion research facilities; strengthening the ecosystem connection between the RISE center in Colorado and the VEGA center in Bavaria; promoting transatlantic fusion energy industry and supply chain partnerships; and conducting talent development cooperation. The parties will also establish a joint working group to identify priority projects and plan to organize delegation visits, expert workshops, and initial cooperative activities within the next 12 months.

The signing ceremony was held on June 9 at Marvel Fusion's headquarters. The Letter of Intent builds on a broader cooperation agreement signed the same day between Bavaria and Colorado aimed at strengthening collaboration in science, research, and innovation.

Marvel Fusion stated that this cooperation builds on its existing partnership with Colorado State University. The two parties have previously collaborated on a technology validation platform that will serve laser-driven fusion energy research and development. The inclusion of Colorado, Siemens Energy, and innovation resources from both Colorado and Bavaria will help form a cross-regional cooperation network covering research, industry, and supply chains.

The State of Colorado noted that it is developing into a laser fusion innovation hub, with resources including research institutions, startup companies, and industry partners. This agreement will create new conditions for advancing fusion technology, cultivating relevant talent, and expanding clean and reliable energy supply.

Siemens Energy stated that the commercialization of fusion energy depends not only on scientific breakthroughs but also on capabilities in industrial manufacturing, energy system integration, and engineering deployment. Participation in this cooperation program will help establish an industrial collaboration foundation for the future development and application of fusion energy.

Colorado State University stated that the agreement will further strengthen the connection between its RISE center and the VEGA center in Bavaria. The university's cooperation with Marvel Fusion is regarded as one of the key public-private partnership projects advancing laser-driven fusion energy development. As planned, Colorado State University's ATLAS facility will be commissioned in 2027, providing an experimental platform for research in fusion energy, advanced manufacturing, and related safety technologies.
