ITM and SpiroChem Announce Strategic Collaboration to Advance Novel Radiopharmaceutical Development
Garching/Munich, Germany and Basel, Switzerland, September 8, 2026 – Radiopharmaceutical biotechnology company ITM Isotope Technologies Munich SE and Swiss collaborative research organization SpiroChem AG today announced a strategic drug discovery partnership focused on a novel radiopharmaceutical candidate within ITM's pipeline. The specific target and financial terms of the collaboration were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, the parties will combine their respective capabilities to advance candidate discovery and optimization. SpiroChem will leverage its drug discovery platform, macrocycle library, and screening engine to lead hit identification and optimization, while ITM will contribute its expertise in radiopharmaceutical development from preclinical research through clinical development. The collaboration aims to identify high-affinity binders and advance the development of a potential first-in-class radiopharmaceutical candidate.
The collaboration focuses on specific cancer markers in solid tumor indications, with the goal of developing small-molecule targeted agents for cancer types with limited treatment options. Both parties stated that the project will explore high-quality chemical matter suitable for targeted radionuclide therapy and drive research progress through design, synthesis, and testing cycles.
ITM stated that the collaboration with SpiroChem will bring new drug discovery capabilities and a differentiated technology platform to the company, supporting its continued expansion of the radiopharmaceutical pipeline and exploration of novel biological targets addressing unmet medical needs. ITM currently has 13 radiopharmaceutical product candidates spanning development stages from preclinical research to Phase III clinical trials.
Publicly available information shows that ITM specializes in radiopharmaceutical therapy and diagnostics for refractory tumors, with operations covering the research, production, and supply of medical radioisotopes, as well as the combination of radioisotopes with targeting molecules to advance precision oncology product development. SpiroChem, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, is a spin-off of ETH Zurich specializing in complex medicinal chemistry and integrated drug discovery, with technical focus areas including the design and optimization of macrocycles, peptides, and other complex molecules.
