WANO Peer Review Successfully Conducted for Hainan Nuclear Power Units 1 and 2
From July 13 to 31, the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) conducted a three-week operational peer review of Hainan Nuclear Power Units 1 and 2. The review involved 22 industry experts from 5 countries and regions, who carried out a comprehensive and systematic assessment of Hainan Nuclear Power across ten core areas including organizational management, operations, maintenance, and technology, through various methods such as on-site observations, personnel interviews, and document reviews. In addition, the expert team conducted a special evaluation of the plant's nuclear safety culture status and the implementation of Significant Operating Experience Reports (SOER). On August 1, Unit 3 of the Huaneng Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II Project, the first large-scale pressurized water reactor nuclear power project under controlling construction by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. and the first "Hualong One" nuclear power project in Hainan Province, was connected to the grid, generating Huaneng's first kilowatt-hour of pressurized water reactor nuclear power. This marks that the unit has officially gained the capability to transmit power to the grid, taking a key step toward the goal of commercial operation. The project plans to build two 1.2-million-kilowatt nuclear power units, equipped with China's independently developed third-generation pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology, the "Hualong One." South China Regional Office of the National Nuclear Safety Administration Conducts Special Supervision and Inspection of Changjiang Units Under Construction
As the South China region enters the main flood season with concentrated typhoons and heavy rainfall, nuclear facilities face significant pressure in resisting meteorological disasters, and safety control responsibilities are critical. To rigorously prevent nuclear safety risks triggered by natural disasters during the flood season and to reinforce the primary responsibility of operating entities for safety production, the South China Regional Office of the National Nuclear Safety Administration (hereinafter referred to as the South China Regional Office) made advance deployments and carried out a special supervision and inspection of typhoon and flood prevention for the Changjiang units under construction in an unannounced manner.
