India's cumulative nuclear power generation surpasses 1 trillion units (1000 BU), NPCIL sets historic milestone
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) announced on August 4 that cumulative nuclear power generation since the start of commercial operations has exceeded 100 billion kilowatt-hours (1000 Billion Units, equivalent to 1 trillion kWh) for the first time. The company stated that this milestone marks a significant achievement on India's path toward clean and sustainable energy, corresponding to avoiding approximately 860 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to approximately taking 187 million gasoline and diesel passenger vehicles off the road for a full year, or nearly the total annual greenhouse gas emissions of a single industrialized nation such as Germany or Japan. To explore avenues for cooperation in Tunisia around non-destructive testing (NDT) and industrial applications of nuclear technology, the Technical Center for Mechanical and Electrical Industries (CETIME) hosted a joint delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the National Center for Nuclear Science and Technology (CNSTN). Eagle Nuclear claims to have discovered the largest uranium deposit in the United States, located at the border of Oregon and Nevada. The company states that it holds an interest in the Aurora Project, which is the largest conventional uranium deposit in the U.S. classified under measured and indicated standards. The deposit currently contains 32.75 million pounds of indicated resources and 4.98 million pounds of inferred resources, compliant with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) S-K 1300 standards. On August 1, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stated that Russia should complete the development of a domestically produced MRI scanner by 2027. Mishustin learned about the relevant progress during his visit to the Consultative Diagnostic Center in the Republic of Tyva. While inspecting the MRI equipment installed at the center, he asked Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko about the development of domestic devices. Murashko stated that the research and development work is being carried out by Rosatom, and noted that the device is expected to be completed next year. Mishustin then expressed hope that Russia would have its own domestically developed MRI scanner next year. If the device is completed as planned, it will be used in the field of medical imaging diagnostics.
