Danube Water Levels Recover, Hungary Restarts Second Turbine at Paks Nuclear Power Plant
On August 10, as the Danube River's water levels recovered, Hungary began restarting a previously constrained turbine at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. The Paks plant uses Danube water for cooling and normally supplies nearly half of Hungary's electricity. Due to heatwaves and persistent drought, the Danube's water levels fell to historic lows in recent weeks, reducing the plant's generating capacity to about 10%, with only one of its eight turbines remaining operational. According to available information, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated on the 10th that the Danube's water level had risen 19 centimeters from the low point recorded last week, and that restart work on the second turbine at the Paks plant had begun, with power generation expected to resume by Monday evening. He also previously mentioned...

Russian Ambassador Says Willing to Transfer Civilian Nuclear Technology to Morocco, Covering Power Generation, Seawater Desalination, Nuclear Medicine, and Agriculture
New directions are emerging in Morocco-Russia economic and technical cooperation, with both sides intending to expand the scope of collaboration from traditional energy sectors to strategic industries such as civilian nuclear technology, seawater desalination, medicine, and agriculture. Russia's Ambassador to Morocco, Igor Belyaev, stated that Russia is willing to share civilian nuclear technology expertise with Morocco, a remark indicating that bilateral cooperation may extend from equipment supply and energy projects to more technology-intensive comprehensive partnerships. This development is closely linked to Morocco's current needs. In recent years, Morocco has continuously promoted the diversification of energy sources and accelerated efforts to address water scarcity, with seawater desalination having become a...

Paraguay's Nuclear Power Generation Debate Heats Up: Regulator Supports Private Sector Participation
Paraguay's Radiation and Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARRN) has welcomed the open attitude shown by the National Electricity Administration (ANDE), stating that allowing or encouraging private sector participation in nuclear power generation projects would bring new discussion space to the country's energy mix. This stance indicates that nuclear energy is no longer just a long-term technical vision but has begun to enter the public agenda of policy, investment, and regulatory coordination. Paraguay has long relied on hydropower resources, with major projects such as Itaipu and Yacyretá giving it an advantage in clean electricity. However, with domestic industrialization, growing electricity consumption, and changes in the regional energy market, sole reliance on hydropower also faces pressures from seasonality, hydrological conditions, and long-term demand...

South Korea Designates SMR as National Strategic Technology, Tax Incentives to Drive New Investment in Nuclear Supply Chain
The South Korean government's inclusion of Small Modular Reactors (SMR) in its national strategic technology support scope signals that its energy and industrial policies are extending from traditional large-scale nuclear power plants to next-generation nuclear technologies. SMRs feature modular manufacturing, relatively shorter construction periods, and higher site flexibility, making them a key direction for South Korea in balancing energy security, low-carbon transition, and advanced manufacturing upgrades. This policy has gained support from South Korea's nuclear industry, with the key being that national strategic technology status typically entails tax credits and other incentives for corporate R&D, equipment investment, and related capital expenditures. For companies involved in nuclear equipment, castings and forgings, control systems, engineering design, and fuel-related businesses...

India's cumulative nuclear power generation surpasses 1 trillion units (1000 BU), NPCIL sets historic milestone
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) announced on August 4 that cumulative nuclear power generation since the start of commercial operations has exceeded 100 billion kilowatt-hours (1000 Billion Units, equivalent to 1 trillion kWh) for the first time. The company stated that this milestone marks a significant achievement on India's path toward clean and sustainable energy, corresponding to avoiding approximately 860 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to approximately taking 187 million gasoline and diesel passenger vehicles off the road for a full year, or nearly the total annual greenhouse gas emissions of a single industrialized nation such as Germany or Japan. NPCIL data shows that electricity generated through nuclear power has effectively avoided substantial greenhouse gas emissions. Nuclear energy is recognized as one of the low-carbon and reliable energy sources, playing a critical role in addressing climate change...

Global nuclear power generation hits record high in 2025, with net growth mainly driven by China
According to the latest release of the Statistical Review of World Energy, global nuclear power generation reached 2,845 TWh in 2025, an increase of approximately 30 TWh from 2024, up 1.3% year-on-year, setting a new record. Among this, China's nuclear power generation increased by more than 34 TWh, becoming the primary source of net global nuclear growth. This record needs to be viewed within a longer timeframe. The previous peak in global nuclear power generation occurred in 2006, when it reached 2,803 TWh. In other words, although 2025 global nuclear power generation has surpassed the previous peak, the cumulative increase over 19 years is only about 1.5%, which does not indicate rapid expansion on a global scale. Over the past decade, global nuclear power generation has risen from 2015...
