Ministry of Ecology and Environment's North China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision Holds Regular Dialogue Meeting with Jiangsu Nuclear Power

Recently, the North China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as the North China Regional Office) organized the first regular dialogue meeting of 2026 with Jiangsu Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Jiangsu Nuclear Power), focusing on exchanges regarding nuclear safety supervision, significant anomalies, construction, and operation management at Tianwan Nuclear Power Station. Representatives from the East China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and CNNC Suneng Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. attended the meeting. The North China Regional Office heard reports from Jiangsu Nuclear Power on the operation and construction status of units at Tianwan Nuclear Power Station in the first half of 2026, as well as the implementation of daily supervision and management requirements from the North China Regional Office, and was briefed on recent on-site supervision work at Tianwan Nuclear Power Station...

Cold Functional Test of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant Unit 8 Successfully Completed

Cold Functional Test of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant Unit 8 Successfully Completed

On August 3, the cold functional test (hereinafter referred to as the "cold test") of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant Unit 8, constructed by China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Co., Ltd. (CNI23), was successfully completed, marking the official transition of the unit from the engineering installation phase to the system commissioning and testing phase, laying a solid foundation for subsequent hot functional test, reactor fuel loading, and grid connection. The cold test is the first comprehensive commissioning test after a nuclear power unit enters the system commissioning phase and is one of the important milestone nodes in nuclear power plant engineering construction. Its main purpose is to verify the integrity and leak-tightness of the pressure boundary, including primary loop pipeline welds, equipment, and high-pressure sections of connected systems, comprehensively inspect on-site installation quality, and precisely identify potential hazards. It serves as the first comprehensive and systematic "physical examination" of the reactor before its operation.

Ministry of Ecology and Environment's North China Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision Station Conducts Special Supervision on Cold Test Release for Tianwan Nuclear Power Unit 8

Ministry of Ecology and Environment's North China Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision Station Conducts Special Supervision on Cold Test Release for Tianwan Nuclear Power Unit 8

The Cold Functional Test (hereinafter referred to as the cold test) is the first major comprehensive test for a nuclear power unit transitioning from the installation phase to the commissioning phase. It is a key core link to verify the pressure-bearing capacity and sealing performance of the nuclear island main system and equipment under design pressure conditions, and serves as a critical milestone to ensure the subsequent safe and stable operation of the unit. Recently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment's North China Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision Station (hereinafter referred to as the North China Supervision Station) conducted comprehensive supervision on the cold test control point release for Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant Unit 8. Adhering to the principle of supervision moving forward, the station consolidated the pre-test foundation. Upholding the nuclear safety supervision philosophy of "prevention first, moving the checkpoint forward," the North China Supervision Station focused on the preconditions for the cold test control point release, verified various items pending rectification one by one, and ensured that all hidden dangers were effectively addressed, building a solid safety barrier for the smooth progress of subsequent tests.
