China's Nuclear Power Installed Capacity Up 8.5% Year-on-Year by End of July

On August 25, the National Energy Administration released national electricity statistics for January-July. By the end of July, the country's cumulative installed power generation capacity reached 4.08 billion kilowatts, up 11.0% year-on-year. Among this, nuclear power installed capacity stood at 66.14 million kilowatts, up 8.5% year-on-year. During January-July, the country added 3.62 million kilowatts of new nuclear power installed capacity. In the same period, the cumulative average utilization hours of power generation equipment nationwide were 1,671 hours, down 135 hours from the same period last year. From August 20 to 21, the Workshop on Engineering Application of Domesticated Safety-Class DCS in Nuclear Power Projects, led by SNPAS, was successfully held in Shanghai. Relevant leaders and experts from Beijing Guangli Nuclear System Engineering Co., Ltd., China Nuclear Control System Engineering Co., Ltd., and Nuclear Power Institute of China attended the meeting, with a representative from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment's North China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision dispatched to provide guidance. The meeting focused on discussions regarding the engineering qualification of domesticated safety-class DCS and the verification of their application in nuclear power engineering. Recently, the 6-megapixel large-area two-dimensional pixel array detector independently developed by the detector R&D team of the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) at the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, completed long-term online operation validation. Since its deployment for trial operation at the HEPS Biological Macromolecular Microcrystal Diffraction Beamline in October 2025, it has supported nearly 90 research projects from over 50 research groups as of June 30, 2026. Recently, the deaerator for Unit 1 conventional island of Phase I Expansion Project of Huaneng Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Station, undertaken by PowerChina Nuclear Engineering Company, was successfully hoisted and placed into position, marking a key milestone in the installation of conventional island equipment for the unit and creating conditions for subsequent turbine equipment installation, piping layout, and system commissioning. The Huaneng Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Base currently hosts a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor demonstration project, the world's first fourth-generation nuclear power plant to achieve commercial operation. The Phase I Expansion Project plans to build two Hualong One units, third-generation nuclear power units independently developed by China, each with a capacity of 1.225 million kilowatts.
