First Power Transmission Line Commissioned at Smolensk NPP-2 Construction Site

First Power Transmission Line Commissioned at Smolensk NPP-2 Construction Site

The first power transmission line has been commissioned at the construction site of Russia's Smolensk NPP-2. The line will provide stable power supply and round-the-clock lighting for the construction and installation base, freeing on-site work from natural daylight constraints. According to the project schedule, the construction site is currently connected to the 10 kV grid via a temporary scheme, with a switch to the permanent power supply system planned after the 110/10 kV permanent substation is put into operation. During construction, the contractor laid over 3 kilometers of cable and installed more than 60 transmission line towers under challenging weather conditions. During the construction phase of the installation base, stable power supply plays a fundamental role in project progress. The site needs to complete the construction of rebar module and rebar cage fabrication workshops on schedule, establishing a complete preparation flow from metal processing to finished component delivery. These components will be used directly in the subsequent construction of the main structures of the nuclear power units.

Korean Hospital Team Develops AI Model to Improve Bone Metastasis Detection Using PET/CT and Other Information

Korean Hospital Team Develops AI Model to Improve Bone Metastasis Detection Using PET/CT and Other Information

A research team at Seoul Metropolitan Government Seoul National University Boramae Medical Center has recently developed an artificial intelligence model capable of identifying bone metastases that are difficult to detect on CT images. By incorporating MRI and PET/CT information during the training process, the model enables lesions that are inconspicuous on CT and prone to being missed to be included in the training data, thereby enhancing detection capability. Bone metastasis is an important basis for determining cancer staging and formulating treatment plans. If lesions are not clearly visible on CT images, bone metastasis may be detected late and may lead to complications such as pathological fractures and spinal cord compression. Previous related AI studies have largely relied on lesions clearly visible on CT to build training data, and the research team believes that this approach may...

Controlled Nuclear Fusion Specialized Power Supply Industry Matchmaking Conference Held in Hefei High-tech Zone

Controlled Nuclear Fusion Specialized Power Supply Industry Matchmaking Conference Held in Hefei High-tech Zone

On August 14, a major industry event focused on the fusion core equipment track — the "Fusion Power Source, Chain Linkage, New Journey" Controlled Nuclear Fusion Specialized Power Supply Industry Matchmaking Conference — was held at the Zhongke Hefei Technology Innovation Engineering Institute. The conference was guided by the Hefei High-tech Zone Science and Technology Bureau, co-hosted by the USTC Silicon Valley Service Platform and the Fusion Financial Institutions Alliance, organized by Hefei Tai'a Fusion Technology Co., Ltd., Science Island Hefei Technology Innovation Engineering Institute Co., Ltd., and the Anhui Science, Technology and Industry Integration Innovation Association, with exclusive support from the Bank of China Hefei Branch. Specialized power supplies are the core power hub supporting the stable operation of controlled fusion devices, and are also key hardware for achieving stable plasma confinement and advancing self-sustaining fusion reactions. In various fusion experimental devices, the overall cost of the power supply system accounts for a considerable proportion. Currently, the global controlled nuclear fusion industry has entered a stage where engineering demonstration and commercialization breakthroughs proceed in parallel, and the industry is facing a window of opportunity for development. However, the industry still faces practical development challenges such as long cycles for translating scientific research into technology applications, lack of information exchange between upstream and downstream supply and demand, and heavy R&D burdens on sci-tech innovation and manufacturing enterprises.

KHNP Maps Out SMR Security System to Address Drone and Nuclear Material Threats

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) is preparing to establish a new security response system for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and decommissioned nuclear power plants. Due to their smaller size and more flexible deployment methods, SMRs may be distributed across different regions in the future, and the security risks they face are not entirely identical to those of traditional large-scale nuclear power plants. KHNP plans to launch a research service on physical protection implementation plans related to new nuclear energy projects in September, focusing on assessing risks such as terrorist attacks, external intrusion, theft of nuclear materials, facility sabotage, and drone attacks. Physical protection refers to a nuclear security system established for nuclear materials and nuclear facilities, encompassing prevention, detection, interdiction, and emergency response.
