Land clearance obstacles hamper Vietnam's Ninh Thuan nuclear power project; Khanh Hoa province establishes task force to advance land handover

August 7, 2026, according to the Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam's Ninh Thuan 1 and Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power plant projects are entering an accelerated construction phase, but land clearance, compensation, and resident resettlement remain the main bottlenecks affecting progress. In accordance with the requirements of the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Khanh Hoa province is responsible for advancing Component Projects 1 and 2 supporting the two nuclear power projects, namely land acquisition and site clearance, and resettlement work. Although the provincial government has repeatedly set clear land handover targets and timelines, in actual implementation, especially at the Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power project located in Phuoc Dinh Commune, numerous complex issues continue to arise in planning, compensation, land ownership verification, and on-site handover, causing progress to fall short of expectations. The prominent contradictions of the Ninh Thuan 1 project...

FAO and IAEA: Nuclear Technologies Are Enhancing Agricultural Production and Food Security

FAO and IAEA: Nuclear Technologies Are Enhancing Agricultural Production and Food Security

On March 30, 2021, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency presented multiple applications of nuclear technologies in agriculture and food security. The two organizations have collaborated for over 50 years in knowledge sharing and capacity building, further strengthening their partnership through the establishment of the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture. In the field of animal health, nuclear technologies are used for the detection, control, and prevention of transboundary animal diseases and zoonoses. Belize previously had to send animal disease testing samples to overseas laboratories; with support from the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre, the Belize Agricultural Health Authority established a molecular diagnostic laboratory for animal health and adopted real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing technology. This method can detect animal diseases within 24 hours, helping frontline personnel take rapid prevention and control measures. Recently, the laboratory has also been used to assist in human COVID-19 testing, reflecting the "One Health" concept that animal, human, plant, and environmental health are interconnected.

Petrovietnam Calls for Synchronized Regulation and Development in Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Project

Petrovietnam Calls for Synchronized Regulation and Development in Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Project

Petrovietnam has proposed adopting a synchronized coordination mechanism in the development of the Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power project. The Group believes that for this nuclear power plant project, regulatory, licensing, and inspection procedures should proceed in parallel with the project development process during the investment preparation phase. This approach can enhance document quality, control risks, and ensure the project is implemented safely and in compliance with standards. Petrovietnam emphasized that nuclear power projects require regulatory work (including licensing, assessment, and review) to be integrated into all stages of the project lifecycle, rather than being treated as a subsequent step. The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group proposed that, to effectively advance project preparation, regulatory capacity building should be strengthened...
