Amentum Joint Venture Selected as Capability Partner for Australia's Nuclear-Powered Submarine Shipyard Project
Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) has selected a joint venture between Amentum and Laing O'Rourke as the capability partner for the nuclear-powered submarine construction shipyard project in South Australia. The project is located at the new Osborne shipyard north of Adelaide, which will be used to build Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines under the AUKUS trilateral agreement. Under a long-term contractual arrangement, Amentum and Laing O'Rourke will undertake key support roles during the development of the new shipyard. The work will be integrated into ANI's Integrated Delivery Office, focusing on providing specialized support in nuclear-related project management, construction management, and safety management.

Atomic Canyon, a company developing artificial intelligence tools for the nuclear energy industry, announced on August 18 that the Nuclear Industry Virtual Assistant (NIVA) has transitioned from the pilot phase to full deployment and will be rolled out to nuclear power plants across North America. The platform was developed by Atomic Canyon in collaboration with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), and is available to commercial nuclear power plants that are members of these organizations. NIVA is positioned as an AI platform dedicated to the nuclear power industry, primarily designed to help nuclear professionals find, integrate, and apply industry knowledge more quickly across complex workflows involving technical, regulatory, and operational management tasks.

Korea's COSMAX Partners with Pohang Accelerator Laboratory to Use Synchrotron Radiation Accelerator for Cosmetics R&D
COSMAX, a global cosmetics ODM company, announced on the 18th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) in Korea to conduct cosmetics R&D using advanced scientific and technological infrastructure such as the synchrotron radiation accelerator. Recently, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa Province issued Decision No. 2744/QD-UBND, approving the delineation of a Category IV mineral resource area in Phuoc Dinh Commune to support resettlement and land clearance works related to the construction of Ninh Thuan 1 and Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power plants. This area falls under the category of mineral zones developed without auctioning mining rights, subject to the relevant provisions of the Law on Geology and Minerals, reflecting the local government's arrangement to provide resource assurance for supporting works of major energy projects. On the morning of August 14, the Economic Security Department of the Ministry of Public Security, in coordination with the Khanh Hoa Provincial Police Department, held a thematic conference to assess national security safeguards in the process of Vietnam's nuclear energy development. U.S. nuclear company TerraPower partners with Korean firms to advance Natrium advanced nuclear deployment in America
U.S. nuclear company TerraPower, backed by Bill Gates, is accelerating the commercialization of its advanced nuclear reactors. The company announced on August 14 that it has reached cooperation agreements with South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction and SK Innovation, aiming to advance the deployment of up to eight 345 MW Natrium reactors in the U.S. nuclear expansion. The first plant is expected to be completed by 2030, a timeline that underscores the urgency of deploying next-generation nuclear technology in the United States. Under the agreement, Hyundai Engineering & Construction has been selected as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for up to eight future Natrium reactor projects. Phu Tho Province, Vietnam Advances Improvement of Radiation and Nuclear Accident Emergency Response Plan
On the morning of August 13, the Department of Science and Technology of Phu Tho Province, in coordination with the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Institute for Technology and Radiation Application, held a scientific seminar to solicit opinions on the draft of the "Radiation and Nuclear Accident Emergency Response Plan of Phu Tho Province." Experts, scientists, and representatives from relevant provincial and municipal departments were invited to attend, aiming to ensure the plan's feasibility, alignment with local conditions, and compliance with national requirements for atomic energy management and radiation safety. The core purpose of this seminar was to improve the emergency response plan through multi-party input, making it more suitable for local realities and meeting the requirements of atomic energy application, radiation safety, and nuclear safety management. From the local perspective, the application of radiation technology in Phu Tho Province has already reached a certain scale. Currently, the province has more than 270 institutions using radiation, equipped with over 417 X-ray machines, 2 linear accelerators, more than 500 radiation devices, and 45 radioactive sources, widely applied in fields such as medicine, industry, technical inspection, and scientific research. These technologies have played an active role in enhancing diagnostic and treatment capabilities, improving labor productivity, upgrading product quality, and serving economic and social development.

Vietnam accelerates nuclear power workforce training, Ninh Thuan 1 project targets commercial operation in 2037-2038
On the afternoon of August 12, Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Quang Hung held a working meeting with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to focus on the implementation of human resource training plans in the nuclear power sector.
