Japan Atomic Industrial Forum Chairman: Overseas SMR Projects Help Sustain Supply Chain, but Japan Still Needs to Build New Nuclear Plants
Hideki Masui, Chairman of the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF), stated on May 31 that Japanese companies are playing a significant role in global small modular reactor (SMR) projects through design and equipment supply, but the long-term maintenance and development of Japan's nuclear technology base ultimately requires the construction of new nuclear power plants domestically. At a regular press conference, Masui reviewed international developments in the SMR field. He noted that approximately 30 countries currently use nuclear energy, and about 20 countries are studying the deployment of SMRs in some form. Projects involving Japanese companies include GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy's BWRX-300 and NuScale Power's VOYGR SMR, whi...

"AI Empowers Anti-Counterfeiting in Safety, Quality, and Environment Fields" — Huang Chuangtao, Engineer, CGN Intelligent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.
On November 14, 2025, Huang Chuangtao, an engineer from CGN Intelligent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote report titled "AI Empowers Anti-Counterfeiting in Safety, Quality, and Environment Fields" at the AI + Nuclear Energy Innovation Application Industry-Economy Roadshow of the Shenzhen Nuclear Industry Expo. The report introduced the application achievements of using AI to enhance anti-counterfeiting for certificates, qualifications, and quality certification documents in the nuclear power industry. The system employs a layered architecture, multimodal recognition, collaboration between large and small models, and dual verification via QR code links to identify deep counterfeiting, such as simultaneous forgery of certificate content and websites. This solution has completed the verification of over 7,000 certificates, intercepted 17 cases of counterfeiting, and plans to build a traceable quality trust system combined with blockchain. Key points: 1. ...

Urenco Isotopes Collaborates on EMIS Test Facility to Strengthen Europe's Enriched Lanthanide Isotope Supply Chain
On July 28, 2026, Urenco Isotopes announced a collaboration with RI Research Instruments to advance the construction of a dedicated Electromagnetic Isotope Separation (EMIS) test facility, aiming to strengthen the future European supply chain for enriched lanthanide elements and meet the growing demand for high-purity stable isotopes in scientific research and potential medical isotope applications. Lanthanides are rare earth metals, and their isotopes may be used in the future for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Currently, reliable sources of high-purity lanthanide stable isotopes remain limited, with the supply chain concentrated among a few producers, and Europe's local supply capacity is relatively insufficient. Under the collaboration arrangement, RI Research Instruments...
