Brive in France Tests Sterile Insect Technique Using X-Ray Irradiation to Control Tiger Mosquitoes, Preliminary Results Show Nearly 60% Sterility Rate in Mosquito Eggs
The city of Brive-la-Gaillarde in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France is using the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) to control tiger mosquitoes. Since May 2025, the city has been working with the Montpellier-based company Terratis, releasing male mosquitoes that have been treated with X-ray irradiation and rendered incapable of reproduction, in order to reduce the tiger mosquito population. Argentina advances uranium mine restart to support nuclear power program

The government of Javier Milei proposed a nuclear program in June this year, covering uranium resource development, support for the operation of existing nuclear power units, and the construction of modular reactors. Argentina has a long history of uranium mining. According to data, the Huemul uranium mine in Mendoza Province operated from 1955 to 1975, and the Sierra Pintada uranium mine operated from 1975 to 1997. CFHI Dalian Nuclear Power Evaporator Clean Room Project Advances Preliminary Preparations
Recently, preliminary preparations are advancing for the clean room project under the evaporator batch manufacturing capacity building initiative of CFHI Dalian Nuclear Power & Petrochemical. Located in the Dalian Bay coastal equipment manufacturing cluster, the project will improve the clean operating conditions for nuclear power evaporator production and address the shortcomings in supporting processes for batch manufacturing. The project has a total investment of 18.81 million yuan, covering an area of approximately 2,600 square meters, with a new building area of approximately 2,600 square meters. The construction centers on the evaporator tube bundle assembly clean room, supplemented by installation workstations, channel head storage areas, packaging transport track systems, and air purification systems. Since the project launch, relevant departments in Dalian Bay have been providing service support for preliminary work including land planning, engineering scheme preparation, and approval coordination, while liaising with municipal and district-level industry authorities to resolve bottlenecks in project advancement and improve the efficiency of preliminary preparations.

Uzbekistan Approves Radiation Accident Emergency Procedures for Nuclear Power Plants
Uzbekistan has approved radiation accident emergency procedures for nuclear power plants, specifying the handling procedures when nuclear power plants face the threat of or actually experience radiation accidents. The document was approved by the Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety Committee under the Cabinet of Ministers, registered with the Ministry of Justice, and entered into force on August 20. The procedures apply to the siting, design, construction and operation stages of nuclear power plants, covering the conditions for activating emergency states, radiation dose rate criteria, operational information reporting processes, and requirements for emergency rescue organizations. According to the procedures, the emergency states of nuclear power plants are divided into two levels: emergency preparedness and emergency condition. When the former is activated, it generally means that the safe operation limits or conditions of the nuclear power plant have been exceeded, while the ionizing radiation dose rate has reached the corresponding threshold. If external natural or man-made events such as earthquakes, explosions, fires, or floods occur at the site and affect safety-related systems or safe operating conditions, an "emergency preparedness" state may also be declared.
